Conversation of William Knott and Mr Watt at the Telephone line
Mr. Knott: "Who as calling?"
Mr. Watt: "Watt."
Mr. Knott: "What is your name, please?"
Mr. Watt: "Watt is my name."
Mr. Knott: "That is what I asked you. What is your name?"
Mr. Watt: "That is what I told you. Watt is my name."
A long pause, and then from Watt, "Is this James Brown?"
Mr. Knott: "No, this is Knott."
Mr. Watt: "Please tell me your name."
Mr. Knott: "Will Knott."
YOU LEFT THE TALKERS AT A POINT WHERE THEY WERE
TOTALLY CONFUSED, READ THE REST OF WHAT HAPPENED...
Mr. Watt: "Why not?"
Mr. Knott: "Huh? What do you mean why not?"
Mr. Watt: "Yeah! Why wont you tell me your name?"
Mr. Knott: "But I told you my name!"
Mr. Watt: "Did not you say you will not?"
Mr. Knott: "Not not, knott, Will Knott!"
Mr. Knott: "Thats what I mean." "So you know my name"
Mr. Watt: "Of course not!"
Mr. Knott: "Good. So now, what is yours?"
Mr. Watt: "Watt. Yours?"
Mr. Knott: "Your name!"
Mr. Watt: "Watt is my name."
Mr. Knott: "How the hell do I know? I am asking you!"
Mr. Watt: "Look I have been very patient and I have told you my name and you have not even told me yours yet."
Mr. Knott: "You have been patient, what about me?" "I have told you my name so many times and it is u who have not told me yours yet."
Mr. Watt: "Of course not!"
Mr. Knott: "See, you even know my name!"
Mr. Watt: "Of course not!"
Mr. Knott: "Then why do you keep saying of course Knott?"
Mr. Watt: "Because I dont."
[Pause]
Mr. Knott: "What is your name?"
Mr. Watt: "See, you know my name!"
Mr. Knott: "Of course not!"
Mr. Watt: "Then why do you keep saying Watt is your name"
Mr. Knott: "To find out your name!"
Mr. Watt: "But you already know it!"
Mr. Knott: "What?"
Mr. Knott: "See, and you know mine!"
Mr. Watt: "Of course not!"
Mr. Knott: "Exactly!"
NOW THEY ARE AT A POINT WHERE BOTH THINK THE OTHER
KNOWS THEIR NAME, BUT THEY THEMSELVES DON'T KNOW THE
OTHER'S NAME.
Mr. Knott: "Listen, listen, wait; if I asked you what your name is, what will be your answer?"
Mr. Watt: "Watt is my name."
Mr. Knott: "No, no, give me only one word."
Mr. Watt: "Watt"
Mr. Knott: "Your name!
Mr. Watt: " Right!"
[Pause before it hits him]
Mr. Knott: "Oh, Wright!"
Mr. Watt: "Yeah!"
Mr. Knott: So why didnt you say it before?"
Mr. Watt: I told you so many times!"
Mr. Knott: "You never said Wright before"
Mr. Watt: "Of course I did."
Mr. Knott: "Ok I wont argue any more. Do you know my name?"
Mr. Watt: "I do not."
Mr. Knott: "Well, there you go, now we know each others name."
Mr. Watt: "I do not!"
Mr. Knott: "Good!"
[Pause before it hits him]
Mr. Watt: "Oh, Guud!" "Good." "No wonder, it took me so long, is that Dutch?"
Mr. Knott: "No, it is Knott!"
Mr. Watt: "Oh, okay. At least the names are clear now Guud."
Mr. Knott: "Yes Wright."
Now they seemingly know each other, Wright?
